13 Weeks!

We're almost out of the first trimester! Yay!

Here's what's happening with Baby J this week:

Baby J is about 3 inches long and the size of a medium shrimp. He weighs nearly one ounce now!

(Note to those who choose the images to compare the baby to: Please note that pregnant women have really sensitive gag reflexes, as well as food and smell aversions. Images of veiny, cooked shrimp are not what we want to be thinking about when we think of our babies.)

Back to development...Fingerprints have formed on Baby J's tiny fingertips, his veins and organs are clearly visible through his still-thin skin, and his body is starting to catch up with his head — which makes up just a third of Baby J's body size now. If we're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. The kidney and urinary tract are completely functional which allows the amniotic fluid Baby J has been swallowing to be excreted. Covering the baby’s skin is a fine, soft hair called lanugo.
