We're sick

No, not in the head! Although some days some might say that's questionable.

The Little Miss is one miserable baby. Beginning Saturday about 7pm she began vomiting. Thankfully, she was in the kitchen on the tile floor when it started but jeez, she was prolific. Fever hit about 10pm. Vomiting continued off and on through the night. We couldn't give her any Tylenol or Motrin for the fever as it only came back up. I had zero sleep Saturday night. Sunday was spent with her in our arms fighting the fever, trying to keep her hydrated. Today, no real fever but she's still feeling really crummy. Very tired. And of course I now feel like I'm getting a cold or something.

She was to have her 18-month well-visit Tuesday. When I called the pediatrician's office to reschedule, they convinced me to keep the appointment since well-visits were so booked and not being scheduled until the end of June. If The Little Miss is still not well I guess we'll cover it at her well-visit, if she makes a turn-around today then I guess she'll be miserable from vaccinations!

Fun times in our household!

Uhhh...REALLY!?

So, umm, The Little Miss used the potty yesterday. She's 17 months old. And she used the potty. She ASKED to go.

We were in the bathroom washing our hands when she walked over to the toilet and wanted to get on. I asked her if she had to go and got an "Uh huh".

Okay....

So I take off her clothes and diaper, set her on the potty (this goes to show just how NOT ready we are for potty training - no little potty or seat adapter for the big potty) and she's all smiles while I'm holding her. Next thing I know she's actually going!

I was in shock. Amazed. And honestly in disbelief. I'M not ready for potty training. I figured I'd wait until she was 2 and see if she showed any interest. As much as I want to be free of diapers, I wasn't going to push it until she was ready. Who knew she may be ready before I am.

I texted my sister with the news and she just laughed. Her reply: "I told you she would be an advanced, genius child." My sister is delusional.

I guess our little princess is growing up. Can I protest!?

Happy Mother's Day!

To all the Moms or Moms-to-be we're wishing you a day of love and celebration. For all the noses you've wiped, hugs you've given, tears you've dried, "Whys" you've answered, diapers you've changed and patience you've displayed during potty training. For the ears you lend and support you give - may your gift of life be remembered and cherished today and always.

For those of you who are still waiting whether it not be the right time, infertility (yours or his), or if you're waiting on that child who may not be yours biologically but has always been a part of your heart, I hope your day will come soon.

Happy Mother's Day from us to you!

Giraffes!

Or as the Little Miss would say "Affffs!"

We took a trip to the zoos several weeks ago to feed the giraffes. While The Little Miss was a bit unsure of actually giving them food, she could not get enough of the "Affffs!". We tried to visit the zebras and elephants and rhinos and polar bears and lions but all she wanted was the "Affffs!"

While she comes by her affinity for loving giraffes naturally (they are MY favorite animal and her room is decorated in safari animals - mainly giraffes) I never really thought she'd like them as much as she does. After we returned from the zoo she wanted to sleep with one of her stuffed giraffes every night.

Sophie definitely loves her animals. Ask her what an elephant says and she raises her arm like a trunk and says "Eeeeeee!" But really, how could you resist a face like that!?
